About NCCI – Cancer Hospital in Saddar Karachi

Neurospinal and Cancer Care Institute (NCCI) is a cancer and neurosurgery hospital in Saddar, Karachi, Sindh. It runs under the Pro. M. Hashim Memorial Trust, a non-profit, and has been treating patients since 1995.

The hospital started as the Neurospinal and Medical Institute (NMI). It was renamed NCCI in 2008, when Gamma Knife and Synergy radiosurgery were installed. NCCI’s Gamma Knife was the first in Pakistan.

Brain tumors and other neurological conditions are treated using Gamma Knife. Tumors located elsewhere in the body are treated with Synergy-S, a LINAC-based system designed for Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT/SABR). For diagnosis and staging, we offer CT, mammography, ultrasound, and DEXA imaging capabilities, as well as a 64-slice PET-CT scanner (supported by an on-site cyclotron) and a 1.5T MRI; which includes an ‘open’ MRI option for patients who cannot tolerate a closed scanner.

Most important thing the consultants in clinical or radiation oncology, neurology, general surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and internal medicine all work within the same centre. Scans, consultations, and treatment planning; all these processes are carried out on-site its makes better then from others, sparing patients the hassle of having to travel between different hospitals.

NCCI was founded by PROF. A. SATTAR M. HASHIM M.D, Ph.d SENIOR CONSULTANT NEUROSURGEON with over forty two years of experience and he have been a former Professor of Neurosurgery at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Since 1990, the M. Hashim Memorial Trust, and NCCI, registered with the Government of Sindh, has funded cancer treatment for patients who cannot afford it. Zakat and donations are accepted.

Neurospinal and Cancer Care Institute (formerly Neurospinal& Medical Institute NMI) is the realization of a dream that I conceived during the initial years of my training as a neurosurgeon, to lay down the foundation of an institute that would make a meaningful contribution to society and provide exceptional medical care to the masses.

With a career in Neurosurgery and Neuro-oncological Surgery spanning over forty years, I stand here grateful to Allah, despite being from a humble background, having met a few gracious souls who guided me in my journey of life towards this dream that I have achieved although I do feel that I still have a long road ahead of me and a lot more needs to be done. The most important of these souls was my esteemed fatherwho solicited inspiration and taught me the value of discipline, perseverance and a regulated life.

As I am sure you would know that cancer is a major public health problem and a significant financial burden on the individuals and families affected by this disease. This is the reason in the West the emphasis is now more inclined towards early detection of cancer and its prevention and better treatment options.
